Upcycling
At Kaveri, we aim to reduce our impact on the planet by ensuring that none of the resources we use are wasted. With linen, a little goes a long way. The fabric is so strong and durable that it can be reused and recycled multiple times.
Social Sustainability
“Social sustainability is about identifying and managing business impacts, both positive and negative, on people. The quality of a company’s relationships and engagement with its stakeholders is critical. Directly or indirectly, companies affect what happens to employees, workers in the value chain, customers and local communities, and it is important to manage impacts proactively.”
– UN Global Compact
Being sustainable isn’t only about the materials we use. It also involves maintaining the general welfare of our entire team. Social sustainability is all about identifying and managing our impact on people. This involves maintaining quality relationships with all members involved in our production processes.
As a brand, we make an effort to be transparent about our methods of production through all stages in our supply chain. We ensure that all of our workers, tailors, designers and other team members are provided with a healthy and safe working environment. We believe that all members of the KAVERI family should be acknowledged for their work, treated with respect and paid fairly.
Materials
We only work with NATURAL fabrics. Linen, Cotton & Silk.
It’s all about coming together to make a difference. We only work with companies and individuals who have the same sense of responsibility, belief system, ethics and commitment to taking care of our planet and towards humanity.
During the processing of our fabrics, the chemicals used in the dyeing and processing of the fabrics confirm to REACH standards.
REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.
At the mill we work with, the industrial wastewater is treated in effluent treatment plants to purify the water for its reuse and to ensure the water is safe to be released into the environment.
Linen Loves The Planet
At Kaveri, we only work with linen which is one of the most eco-friendly fabrics you can find.
Linen comes from the flax plant which is highly resilient and can grow naturally and requires less water and fewer pesticides than cotton. It is gentle on the land and is easy to incorporate into modern crop rotation cycles, preventing soil depletion.
Linen is strong, naturally moth resistant, so when untreated (i.e. not dyed) it is fully biodegradable. Its natural colours include ivory, ecru, tan and grey.
The industrial processes of spinning and weaving have very little to no impact on the environment as it uses five to twenty times less water and energy than the production of any other fabric.
SLOW vs. FAST FASHION
Our customers often tell us that our garments “never get old!”
Linen is a material that is stronger when wet and becomes softer and more pliable the more it is used and washed. It just gets better and better!
The yarns of the linen fabric absorb colours beautifully without fading over time. We have strict quality control of the garment construction procedures so that they last a lifetime and do not come apart at the seams.
The growth of fast fashion and consumer culture has led to some alarming facts and figures, with 80 to 100 billion garments manufactured each year. Clothes that are mass produced and sold for low prices are often cheaply made, and can only be worn a few times before they are replaced. Unfortunately, only 1% of textiles get recycled as clothes.
With all this in mind, we at KAVERi, encourage all our customers to consume consciously.
